Programme note

It is thanks to a gathering A Cœur Joie in which I had been invited in 1973 to conduct a choir of voices of girls between 10 and 15 years old, that I was able to discover the sound beauty and the unique quality of these voices.
It is this purity, this fragility and this freshness of the vocal color which had both moved and impressed me that I tried to express in Source 4.

The sung text comes from the eponym poem Source 4 which I was writing at the same time. Among my others works where the voice is present, Source 4 is an exception, the only one in which the poem is sung.

The voices are treated as bright and fluid material. Some small percussions of the woodwind family are added to the vocal color, at the beginning and at the end of the work.

Source 4 is my first opus.
