I always considered Allain Gaussin as a lover of poetry, and it is with great pleasure that I read his book. If we still found in the first poems of the book such or such word evoking Reverdy, Eluard, René Char, and even Rilke and Tagore, the following poems testify of more and more pushed search for the unexpected word, for the original image, for the rare expression. It goes up to the final pages of « L’offrande au Verbe », of « Lumière en regard », written for three voices, as music – and « Chakra », wich is really a musical choir, with its phonemes, its durations, its intensities, its symphonic construction. By closing « Transes et Lumière » (it is the tittle of the book), we are tempted to call Allain Gaussin « musician-poet », and – the inversion of the terms appearing also valid- « poet-musician ».
Olivier Messiaen, extrait de la Préface de Transes et Lumière (1976)

I started writing poems when I was 19, before taking the decision to leave my family to undertake the study of music. It was for me an activity liberator, because at this moment I had no way to quench my immense desire to compose.

L'attente…L'absolu is the second poetry collection of Allain GAUSSIN. Each poem was written in conjunction with a musical work and thus finds its double in a kind of putting in abyss, so to capture and express this tiny palpable vibration somewhere in the mirror of the imagination. |
